How We Build Our Cost Ranges
Every cost guide on HomeFixPrices is built the same way:
- We gather real pricing signals — contractor pricing data, supplier and retailer listings, manufacturer guidance, and published market data from sources such as the U.S. Department of Energy, ENERGY STAR, the IRS and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
- We publish ranges, not single prices. A low / typical / high range reflects real variation by home size, region, equipment tier and contractor. If a range looks suspiciously narrow, we widen it — we’d rather be honest than precise-looking.
- We date everything. Each guide shows when it was published and last updated. Guides are reviewed on a rolling schedule and whenever a major price driver changes (for example, when federal energy tax credits ended on December 31, 2025, our affected guides were corrected).
- Canada is priced separately. Where we show Canadian prices, they come from Canadian sources in CAD. We never convert a US range and call it Canadian.
- Your quote still wins. Our ranges are planning tools, not quotes. Local labor rates, permits and your home’s condition can move a real quote outside a typical range — that’s why every guide tells you to get written local quotes.
